Hi, and welcome to Hints of Gladness.
Savouring reminds me to slow down and to really enjoy life. I want to even savor the mundane things of life. Doing so enriches every aspect of my life. Savoring is one of those things that is not necessary, but can be so beneficial. It's just a practice. When we savor we are actually practicing being aware, and being aware is so vital to our spiritual lives and to our wellbeing.
Quotes
“Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water.” ~Zen proverb
“Neuroscience can now demonstrate the brain indeed has a negative bias; the brain prefers to constellate around fearful, negative, or problematic situations. In fact, when a loving, positive, or unproblematic thing comes your way, you have to savor it consciously for at least fifteen seconds before it can harbor and store itself in your “implicit memory;” otherwise it doesn’t stick. We must indeed savor the good in order to significantly change our regular attitudes and moods. And we need to strictly monitor all the 'Velcro' negative thoughts." - Richard Rohr [1]
“I arise in the
morning torn between
a desire to improve
(or save) the world
and a desire to
enjoy (or savor) the
world. This makes
it hard to plan the day.”
~ E.B. White - Author of "Charlotte's Web"
Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
May your life be enriched as you take time to savor.
