Exercise kindness towards ALL aspects of your character
If there’s anything that I have learned in dealing with my character flaws it is that they don’t respond well to a full-on moral attack.
Being harsh with myself just strengthens negativity and shame and entraps me even more.
The way out and the way through is to “exercise kindness.”*
And exercising kindness towards myself will have an interpersonal impact too. As John O’Donoghue says “to learn to love your adversaries (both internal and external) is to earn a freedom that is beyond resentment and threat.“*
