When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
~ Mary Oliver ~
For 30 days (or more) I’m going to post and talk about the things that give me joy. I'm going to do my best to record hints of gladness especially when I walk and throughout the day.
To sustain this, and what will hopefully become a habit, I have to keep it as simple as possible, so I’m not going to write or do anything too elaborate other than to briefly comment on what's making me glad and have a picture or two to go along it.
Take good care,
~ Rod
P.S. If you'd like to join me, let me know. I would love to have some fellow travellers who are taking note of their hints of gladness. Email rod@hintsofgladness.com

A robin in the underbrush.
Birds of a feather flocking together (pigeons and herons)
Birdsong
People providing morning greetings to those familiar with them on the trail.
The cool breeze of a spring morning
Tiny blessings
Letting go and being nothing. Just being. Being with a hint of compassion.
The leaves finally arriving on the trees 🌲
Stillwater.
The smell of the ocean
The release in my body that comes from a much needed stretch
Hints of gladness all day long when I simply take the time to notice
Sun streaming through the tall trees. What a beautiful and familiar stretch of the path
The gift of solitude
The gift of familiar faces
The first coffee in the morning
Having work to do.
Getting paid on time
The sun shining through the trees onto the rapidly moving creek
Blue skies in late afternoon after the threat of rain all day
The reflection of the clouds in sky and trees and mountains on the inlet water
Men shooting the shit in the coffee shop
A mom throwing a ball for her young sheep dog as her daughter who is eating an ice cream cone giggles with glee
